A Blank Canvas

It has been said that Marin suffers from a certain conceit; namely that people here speak and act as if they believe the vast majority of the rest of the state (or even the country) is an armpit compared to Marin. Well, I have to say I don't share in that fantasy and this Fairfax house sure doesn't bolster that conceit one iota. It's described by the realtor like so "Move in now and make improvements to increase value. This blank canvas will soon become your masterpiece. Equipped with a wonderful base: two bedrooms, one bath, fresh paint, refinished fir floors". It comes in at 952 sq ft, was built in 1946, and is going for only $649,000.

"Equipped with a wonderful base"?

Your base is us? Or what whatever the line from the video game is. What is a base in RE terms? A foundation?

Which building is for sale - the garagy thing in the back or the other "structure"?

Most homebuyers don't want a "blank canvas," unless they're developers or nouveau flippers.

This "blank canvas" could easily swallow all your disposable income for improvements, so sorely needed in the "kitchen" (photo 8). As with all these PoS's, how much would you be willing to spend to make these presentable: 100, 200, 300, $400K? For many of these, I'm guessing the remodel would be less cost-effective than simply starting with a better home.

first of all, the realtor should go back to being an unemployed writer. as far as the house, it looks abandoned, love the overgrown backyard and that backyard fence! hey ms. realtor, do you really think that photo is good? and those floors are so clean, must have been redone to cover up the crime scene...
