Surrealistic POS in Lagunitas

1 br 1 ba, 672 sq ft, built 1949. Asking $575,000. I want to say it looks like an outhouse in a state park except that this Lagunitas POS comes with its own outhouse. I'd really like to meet the person who actually thinks something like this is worth over half a million dollars; I think I could use them as the basis of a lucrative pop-psychology book or two.

And what's up with the realtor posting this picture of a stone chicken?

We have truly entered the surreal.

Holy crap! I seriously had a nightmare about this place last night. It looked just like this place, except it was more like 500 sq-ft it was on some kind of lake, and it was attached to a real estate office next door. They only wanted $250k for it, so in retrospect, that was a pretty damn good deal.

That's the original inhabitant of this "house".

Ah. Sort of like a memorial. Now I understand. Thanks.

The realtor included that photo not because of the chicken, but because of the sewer line cleanout, which can be seen behind the chicken. Add $100K for that amenity.

Seriously. Do people really buy this crap?

How come these properties don't sit on the market for years, and never sell????

You'd have to be insane to buy this BS.

I'd love to speak to someone who actually bought a property mentioned on this blog - certainly they must be a few generations closer to the trees than the rest of us, since living in a tree, bush, rundown ferret hole, insert shrub here, seems to be their idea of "livin' the dream"....

Suspend your disbelief -- I have watched quite a few of these places sell. In fact this guy bought this place.

Anon, meet VO5. Feel free to pick his brain about how insane he must be.

You also have to separate the "investor/speculator" mentality from the "owner occupier" mentality. There is a lot of housing speculation and investment in Marin. If you were thinking of buying to own to occupy, then you think anyone who pays that price for that POS is "insane". If you have the mentality of an investor/speculator, then it may not seem insane.
